INTINERARIES
Besides offering the possibility to visit the beautiful artistic attractions in the Norman city (the cathedral, the Benedict monastery, the innumerable Baroque churches, and the ceramic and mosaic artisans’ workshops), Monreale due to its geographical position, is a good starting point for daily excursions to Trapani, Cefalů and Agrigento.
FEAST DAYS AND PROCESSIONS
From the 1 to 3 May the celebrations for SS Crocifisso take place and culminate with a procession through the streets on 3 May which are further enhanced by a suggestive framework of folkloric events and the ever present gastronomical delights.
SACRED MUSIC WEEK
International festival of sacred music, the “Montreal Week” is a reference point for the artists and fans who find in the incomparable backdrop of the Duomo di Monreale (the Monreale Cathedral) with its 6500 square meters (21,325 sq.ft) of biblically inspired mosaics second only to the Santa Sofia in Istanbul, a unique moment to listen to the profound suggestions created by the renovated organ. The “week” is organized every year and occurs during the last ten days of November or at the beginning of December. Free invitations are distributed until all seats are filled.
